With Computex 2024 just around the corner, it’s not surprising that rumours and alleged details surrounding the ASUS ROG Ally X would be flying out the rumour mill at a greater frequency. Of these rumours, the most recent appears to be the gaming handheld’s console price tag.
Word on the street is that the Ally X will retail at US$799 (~RM3,759). That’s US$100 (~RM470) more than when the first Ally launched back last year globally, and about RM500 more than it cost locally brand new. And that is for the model with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor.

Speaking the Z1 Extreme, it is also rumoured that ASUS will only be shipping Ally X models powered by the aforementioned processor, forgoing a non-Extreme SKU altogether. Further, it will also ship out with 1TB of PCIe Gen4 storage by default, up from 512GB.
Beyond those tidbits, we already know that the Ally X is going to be something of a carbon copy of last year’s Ally. ASUS confirmed in a very short video announcement that it house the same 7-inch FHD 120Hz touch display, that there will be a black option, have room to house the larger M.2 2280 SSD form factor, and a significantly larger battery that it says would provide more than 40% more battery life.
While not specifically mentioned, some eagle-eyed fans and news sites hint at the possibility that the brand may release an all-black version of the Ally X, along with the possibility of a reworked motherboard internally, to address both the microSD card issue and the supposed removal of the XG Mobile eGPU port, leaving the USB-C port all by its lonesome. It was also hinted that the handheld will also be offered in SKUs with more than just 16GB RAM.
