Rumour has it that AMD might be bringing its 3D V-Cache technology over to its Threadripper range, as well as its APU lineup. This interesting bit of news was supposedly gleaned from a feature found in in and ASUS WRX90 motherboard.
According to the motherboard’s manual, it houses an option to control the 3D V-Cache stacks but at this current moment, there are no Threadripper CPUs fitted with the technology. That, of course, might change in the near future, especially if information from a prominent Chiphell leakster, zhangzhonghao, proves to be substantial.
According to the leakster, the company is currently working on a Zen5 Threadripper with 3D V-Cache, and this cache would be applied to all CCDs, and not just the ones available with the current consumer Ryzen series. In addition, they say that the technology would also be made available on next-generation Zen5 APUs, although this will also be limited to the Halo series using the Zen5 architecture.
If AMD is indeed preparing Threadripper and “Halo” generation processors powered by 3D V-Cache, it honestly wouldn’t surprise us – the technology has come a long way since its introduction with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, and has proven its mettle when it comes to gaming. With the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the technology is now in its second generation and fully unlocked, meaning that said CPU is overclockable.
