Come September, this year’s batch of iPhones, the iPhone 17, will be released. There have already been a couple of rumours about what’s to come, with a new one pertaining specifically to the Pro Max model. A leakster has claimed that it will have a smaller Dynamic Island.
This claim comes via serial leakster Digital Chat Station on Chinese social media Weibo. The post, after machine translation, says that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will make use of metalens Face ID components to reduce its overall footprint. This is thanks to the inclusion of a material called metalenses, which was previously mentioned as a material used in making Apple’s AR glasses.
In case you missed it though, the idea is that the material can better focus light, and can result in smaller camera modules on smartphones. Hence the smaller Dynamic Island on the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max. Though the leakster also claims that this metalens material is also expected to be used in future iPad Pro models, as well as the much-rumoured foldable iPad.
As with any claim, this one should be taken with a pinch of salt. This is especially the case since analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had recently predicted that the Dynamic Island sizes will “remain largely unchanged across the 2H25 iPhone 17 series”. Naturally, this too should be taken with a pinch of salt.
