Maxis today has announced plans to extend its Home Solar subscription service across Peninsular Malaysia starting May 2025, following its initial rollout to Klang Valley customers in late 2024. The telco is also planning to open the service to non-customers by the end of the year.

The Maxis Home Solar offering now includes six subscription packages, with monthly fees ranging from RM310 to RM720 depending on the size of the house and solar panel system. As before, these packages can yield monthly electricity bill savings of up to 25% from the first month, and customers begin with a one-time upfront payment of RM1,000.

The monthly fee covers the solar panel system, inverter, installation, maintenance, and system monitoring. Each subscription also includes 24/7 customer support, a 10-year comprehensive warranty, and solar insurance. The warranty includes protection against equipment damage, including incidents caused by environmental factors such as rodent bites, as well as technical support in the event of power supply interruptions.

Eligibility for the service is limited to homeowners with landed properties that have suitable sun exposure and a minimum monthly electricity bill of RM200. The system setup is customised based on the home’s size and electricity consumption, with payment options available either as a flat monthly rate or according to the amount of energy generated.

Installation services include full system design, management of Net Energy Metering (NEM) applications, and smart meter setup. Maxis said maintenance and repairs are provided at no additional cost throughout the subscription term, and proactive monitoring is used to maintain system performance and energy output.

The expansion of the Home Solar service is part of Maxis’ strategy to strengthen its presence in the renewable energy market. It also supports national sustainability goals aimed at achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

The subscription service is currently limited to Peninsular Malaysia, as the government’s NEM programme does not yet cover East Malaysia. However, should it ever be expanded to Sarawak or Sabah in the near future, Maxis says it will consider bringing its Home Solar plans over.
